Artist's Description

Rocky Ford "Bird" Bridge. This iron pratt truss one lane wood planked built ca.1890 is 219' long by 15' wide spans the Cottonwood river SE of Emporia in Lyon Co KS. Is open to traffic, but is in poor condition, it was damaged in 2013 by a tree during a flood, but was reopened a few days later.

It earned its nickname when in July 1983 when this was the location where Reverend Thomas Bird and his mistress drugged and murdered his wife, Sandy Bird. Her body was seen floating in the river and the car was late pulled out of the water. The scandalous story was recreated for the 1987 TV movie "Murder Ordained". Staring Kieth Carradine also had Kathy Bates, John Goodman and Johnny Galecki.

The site is rumored to be haunted with several sightings of a ghostly presence over the past several decades.

Please Note: the FAA watermark does not appear on prints or products

About Kevin Anderson

Kevin Anderson

As the Back Roads Photographer, the back roads that I, shoot can be found most anywhere, but mostly in Kansas and Missouri. I enjoy a eclectic look, sometimes on the the beaten track of so many artists before me or being on a tangent, exploring new creative things. I like to explore back roads of the country, city and of my mind. Photography is most of my images with some digital art from photograph that I feel suites the image.
